2014-26 - No One Can Hurt Us...

On his first day in office as President, as Abraham Lincoln entered to give his inaugural address, one man, a rich aristocrat, stood up.

He said, "Mr Lincoln, you should not forget that your father used to make shoes for my family", and the whole senate laughed. They thought they had made a fool of Lincoln... but certain people are made of a totally different mettle.

Lincoln looked at the man directly in the eyes and said "Sir, I know that my father used to make shoes for your family, and there will be many others here, because he made shoes the way nobody else can."

"He was a creator. His shoes were not just shoes. He poured his whole soul into them. I want to ask you, have you any complaint?? Because I know how to make shoes myself. If you have any complaint I can make you another pair of shoes. But as far as I know, nobody has ever complained about my father's shoes. He was a genius, a great creator and I am proud of my father."

The whole senate was struck dumb. They could not understand what kind of man Abraham Lincoln was.

He was proud because his father did his job so well that not even a single complaint had ever been heard.

2014-25 - The tale of two dogs...

There is a story they tell of two dogs.

Both at separate times walk into the same room. One comes out wagging his tail, while the other comes out growling.

A woman watching this goes into the room to see what could possibly make one dog so happy and the other so mad. To her surprise, she finds the room filled with mirrors.

The happy dog found a thousand happy dogs looking back at him, while the angry dog saw only angry dogs growling back at him.

What you see in the world around you is a reflection of who you are.

2014-24 - Mother Teresa on Forgiveness...

We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge. People make mistakes.

We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

Pause and ponder. Think before you act. Be patient. Forgive & forget. Love one and all.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

~ Mother Teresa

2014-23 - Value and invest in yourself...

Imagine that a Genie offers you any car in the world. The catch is that it is the only car you will ever own. What would you do?

You would read the manual ten times, change the oil twice as often as required, and you would take fastidious care so that that car remained the car of your dreams forever.

Think about what this tells you about your body.

You get only one mind and one body - the same ones you will have at 20, 40, 60, etc.

Take care of them and maximize their potential. It will be too late to take care of your body and mind (and car) later on. You can maintain them, but it is hard or impossible to undo big mistakes or negligence later on. You do not want to end up with a wreck on your hands.

Your main asset in life is yourself.

Treat yourself as a valuable asset. If you value yourself, and invest in yourself, you will be worth a great deal through out your lifetime, both to yourself and to your community.
